Stressed parents of 2-year-old and newborn were not expecting this on their furnace repair bill

Every parent knows the anxiety and stress that comes after giving birth. The constant feeding and lack of sleep is physically exhausting, but also part of the experience of parenthood. The last thing anyone needs is having the baby—and the entire family—sleep in a frigid house during snowy weather.

Jesse and Maria Hulscher of Willmar, Minnesota found themselves facing that situation back in February of this year. Following the birth of their second child, Adler, the furnace fan in the home stopped working, according to Fox 9 News.

“Instantly I panicked,” Jesse told Fox. “I have a two-year-old here, a newborn coming home in a couple days, and this was before the big potential snow storm.”

Jesse immediately called a local business, Magnuson Sheet Metal, to repair the furnace before the baby arrived home.

Craig Aurand, co-owner of Magnuson, answered the call.

“He said, ‘The fans not working, the furnace isn’t working, my wife is in the hospital, we just had a baby yesterday,’” Aurand said. “I just said take it easy, we’ll be right there.”

Aurand stayed true to his word. It wasn’t long before someone showed up and fixed the central heating furnace fan.

But when the invoice came in the mail, it was not what Jesse expected.

“I opened it up and looked at the receipt, and it said, ‘No charge, take care of the new baby,’” Jesse said.

According to Fox 9 News, such acts are not uncommon for Aurand—who has been known to help families in need or waive small bills.

“We didn’t do it for the PR, we just did it to be good people. That’s it. Just to be nice to these people,” Aurand said. “That’s what this is about.”

As for the Hulschers, Jesse made sure to share the generous act with his friends and family on Facebook. He wrote: “Can’t thank them enough for the great service, speedy response time and amazing technicians. Businesses like this earn customers for life! Thank you Craig and your staff for the amazing experience! We will definitely be calling on your services again….just hopefully not too soon from now!”
