A man who pushed a woman off a Hong Kong subway platform has been arrested.
The 56-year-old man, believed to be from Southeast Asia, was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) walking along a subway platform in Hong Kong’s Yuen Long station on the morning of Oct. 21.
The man approached a 59-year-old woman, who worked as a cleaner at the station.
While the woman waved cheerfully to a friend across the tracks, the man, wearing a beige cap, green shirt, and brown pants, came up behind the woman and shoved her off the platform. The woman fell several feet onto the tracks below.
The man walked on as if nothing had happened. The woman lay motionless for a few moments, likely stunned by what happened.
There were no trains approaching, and the woman was eventually rescued.
The man, who had a Hong Kong identity card, was charged with suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The woman, identified only by her last name Leung, was taken to nearby Pok Oi Hospital and treated for injuries to her jaw.
The closed-circuit TV tape of the incident has gone viral, with thousands of shares on social media.
